The award-winning Human Rights Conference secured its place in history as the centrepiece of the first WorldPride festival ever to be held in the Asia Pacific region.
Our communities came together in March and brought to the world’s attention vital LGBTQIA+ issues, shining a spotlight on injustices in every corner of the globe and hearing about lived experiences first-hand.
Over three days people heard from human rights defenders and activists, First Nations elders, parliamentarians, UN experts, academics and business and community leaders on the key human rights issues facing LGBTQIA+ people around the world.
Local and international press coverage brought the human rights issues faced by rainbow communities into Australian people’s homes and across the world. Australian Governments used the platform to make historic announcements that will drive alter for LGBTIQA+ people on the ground both in Australia and our region.

There were rainbows to be found in every corner of Sydney when WorldPride smash the ground running on February 17 and people gathered to parade, party and celebrate this global festival, held for the first time in the southern hemisphere. Self-acceptance of place on opening night were the sails of the Sydney Opera House, which lit up in the colours of the Progress Pride flag.
Staged over 17 days, Sydney WorldPride offered more than events with , participants and an estimated 78, visitors. They were treated to the city’s much loved Sydney Gay and Womxn loving womxn Mardi Gras, where hundreds of thousands of well-wishers packed into Oxford Highway to cheer on over spectacularly decorated floats but also pay respect to the “78ers”, a courageous group who paved the way with the imaginative parade that ended in violence and bloodshed, but eventually led to LGBTIQ rights, recognition and respect.

Brompton Technology lights up Sydney WorldPride festival with rainbow of colours
Taking place from mid-February to early Parade, WorldPride is a global LGBTQIA+ festival that has been staged since , with cities vying to be chosen as the host. Licensed by InterPride, this years WorldPride took place in Sydney, making it the first-ever host city in the Southern Hemisphere. The event showcased more than celebrations of queerness and diversity on the world stage, which included the popular Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) events. A range of other festival events were also on offer including arts, sports, theatre, concerts, parties, and First Nations programming. Notable performers such as Kylie Minogue, Kelly Rowland, MUNA, and Charli XCX graced the stage to rejoice queer liberation. Novatech Artistic Event Technology, one of Australias leading audio-visual movie companies, supported the festival by providing a cutting-edge LED screen setup that was powered by industry ‘gold standard’ Brompton LED processing.
