It’s a typical sunny Southern California day the morning I arrive at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills to talk with Theo James about his new motion picture, Divergent.

Based on the series of worldwide best-selling immature adult novels by Veronica Roth, the movie has the potential to create the year-old actor who plays the film’s mysterious male lead, Four, and his costar Shailene Woodley, the story’s female hero, Tris, household names. If successful, it will spawn a franchise that’s expected to rival the Starvation Games and Twilight sagas. However, in the stir of recent box office disappointments also based on YA novels such as Vampire Academy and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the pressure on Divergent to deliver is palpable. It’s a burden obviously felt by the film’s PR team, as the atmosphere inside the building is nothing enjoy the warm weather outside. A storm of urgency is flowing through the hospitality room on the hotel’s 14th floor as I

While Divergent star Shailene Woodley has excitedly explained that the film is about strong men and women who &#;diverge from mediocrity!&#; and &#;stand up for what you feel in!&#; could it also be interpreted as a gay allegory? Specifically, one that highlights bisexuality?

When Woodley&#;s onscreen counterpart Theo James was asked that question by The Advocate, he pondered the idea and responded, &#;That’s an interesting parallel to make. I hadn’t joint those dots myself, but there’s definitely truth in there. … Yeah, I can see it. That’s interesting.&#;

The question arose because the film&#;s dystopian world divides people into factions based on five virtues &#; selflessness, peacefulness, sincerity, intelligence and bravery &#; and forces year-olds to choose only one after taking an aptitude check for guidance. Those who test into multipl

Theo James isn't just a hottie—he's also a heartthrob with a heart of gold.

In a recent interview with The Advocate, the Divergent stud opened up about the flick, which, like the Hunger Games, features a strong female heroine who doesn't need to rely on a dude. And while some actors in Hollywood may be uncomfortable letting a lady take the advantage, James admits he wishes there were more powerful roles for women and even hopes the world will one day embrace an LGBT action hero.

"We're in a planet where masculinity, especially with these huge spectacle movies, is often pushed by rippling six packs and forcing an image down someone's throat trying to prove masculinity. Whereas I think factual masculinity comes from having a sturdy sense of self," he says. "Part of what drew me to Four was his principle of masculinity, specifically in how he relates to Tris and their affair . He's intrigued by her but respectful of her bravery and her traits traits.&

Now That I Mention It

Is it just me, or is HBO pushing an anti-bisexual agenda?

On Sunday night, with a glass of Frappato in hand, and a Primrose Facial Cleansing masque from Aesop sur mon visage, I turned on Home Box Office’s The White Lotus to tune in to this week’s episode SPECIFICALLY to see Theo James FINALLY dip his smooth, plump fingers into the bussy of bisexuality — because I was actually interested, and not just because HBO sent me all that free shit.

Mike White’s present about a bunch of pale people who go to a hotel and do white people things was very boring to me until the arrival of Theo James — who is a swarthy, tall, dark, and handsome king, bisexual Puerto-Rican Princess Aubrey Plaza, and muscular Asian king Will Sharpe’s bottom hairs. Suddenly, I was INTERESTED. You can follow along to the live tweeting of this week’s episode here:

The thing is, as America’s resident bisexual gender non-conforming black man of colour, seeing myself represented in HBO shows is few and far between. Yes I was more of a Miranda and Carrie smashed together when it came to Sex and the City, b
