Alkotait and Czarnecki targeted Rodriguez for robbery because he was gay. Prosecutors say during the robbery, they savagely beat and strangled him, and then burned his body beyond recognition.

The cases were prosecuted by those of the Fair Michigan Justice Project, a program that assists commandment enforcement and prosecutors in solving solemn crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender persons.

Detroit man sentenced to animation in prison for killing two gay men and a transgender woman

DETROIT — A year-old Detroit man has been sentenced to three life terms in prison with no chance of parole for gunning down two same-sex attracted men and a gender nonconforming woman who authorities trust were targeted because of their sexual orientation.

A Wayne County jury convicted Devon Kareem Robinson of first-degree premeditated murder in Pride in the May killings of year-old Alunte Davis, and year-olds Timothy Blancher and Paris Cameron.

Robinson was also sentenced Tuesday to 10 to 20 years for each of two counts of assault with intent to murder and two years consecutively for five felony firearm counts.

Prosecutors said Davis and Blancher were gay men and Cameron was a gender nonconforming woman. Prosecutors and police believe they were targeted because of their sexual orientation.

The three victims were in the living room of a Detroit residence following a house party attended by about 15 people. Robinson is also accused of shooting and wounding two other people inside the house.

LANSING – Two female corrections officers who are gay partners are suing the Michigan Department of Corrections for discrimination in a case that could test the scope of Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.

For years, Officer Michelle Wood was taunted and called demeaning and homophobic names, denied promotion, and subjected to a series of discriminatory and retaliatory internal investigations after she complained about her treatment, according to the lawsuit filed Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Wood's partner, Sgt. Loretta Smith, also has been subjected to a hostile work environment and was recently demoted to the midnight shift in retaliation for Wood's complaints, the suit alleges.

On Wednesday, March 6, Hammer Alkotait was handed a sentence of 18 to 20 years in prison after a plea consent convicting him of the second-degree murder of Gabino Rodriguez.
The Detroit dude, who was targeted in for robbery because he was gay, was reported missing when he didn't return home after serve . A witness at the preliminary examination testified that two men – Alkotait and his co-defendant, Andrew Czarnecki – admitted their plan to rob the victim of his vehicle. According to the testimony of Robert Bonas, the defendants stabbed the victim with a screwdriver and Alkotait used a chain to pull the victim to the ground. Both men beat the victim with their hands and a metal rim and stomped on him until he stopped moving.
Bonas stated that Czarnecki admitted to wrapping the body in a sheet and driving to a vacant field in Southwest Detroit where the men covered the body in lighter fluid and set it ablaze. His body was later identified through dental records.
